My specialty is character impressions, I've stopped trying to compete with the rest of you pro's on regular voiceover jobs...there are too many of you good ones out there. I'm looking for any feedback on different ways to market my talents, as well as getting some honesty on the believability of my characters.
Cheers,
Rodney Dean

Hey Rodney...
Your character demo strikes me as sort of a Jekyll 'n' Hyde type of demo. Parts of it are really strong while other parts are really weak. There are parts of it that sound as if you just sat in front of your mike and read some quick liners in various voices, and other parts sound like actual produced spots. Some of your voices, notably all the Simpsons characters, are superb, and others are so-so. Also, I found the demo to be just a tad longer than what I wanted to listen to.
I suspect you'll have trouble getting many jobs where they want Simpsons voices, or, for that matter any other impersonations. There simply aren't that many clients looking for impersonations. I have a character voice demo out there and I never see any leads for that type of thing. Also, as a radio producer who occasionally hires talent, I never look for impersonations. It's just not sought-after very much. When people DO want a 'character voice' it's typically something like "I want someone who sounds like an elderly Southern gentleman" NOT "I want Homer Simpson".
I'd recommend making the weak, obviously studio-staged parts of your demo stand up in quality to the strong parts of it, and shorten it a bit. But again, just be prepared that no matter how great you are (and you obviously have a LOT of talent!) impersonation gigs are very, very rare.
Best of luck to you!
