Ok, so I've been reading about today's "Razzie" for the worst lead. I totally agree - I deleted it asap. I assumed they knew what they were writing.

However, I see that some of you answered it, thinking that perhaps it was not written correctly. I've kinda been of the mind (only b/c I got burnt here once) that if the dollar amount quoted isn't sufficient, to not answer. Here's why...

I answered a lead once, when I first joined v123. Unbeknownst to me, at that time, the talent seeker could give you a rating, whether he hired you or not. A few months later, I had some questions to V123's Customer Service area about how I could be ranked higher in the searches... and they explained to me that I had one rating (ONE - mind you, I had actually gotten private leads and done the work, but those people didn't rank me) that was negative, and it was bringing me down. It was from a talent seeker for whom I just auditioned a public lead -- I didn't even get the job. But they rated me poorly, and it apparently affected my ranking.

I guess the point to my rambling here is... I have been of the mind to not answer leads unless they suit me perfectly for fear the talent seeker would give me a poor rating, regardless of whether he hired me or not.

Is that thinking no good?

Also, I wonder if there's a way to require talent seekers to rate the talent they use (maybe before they can post their next lead)? Like I said, I've had a couple of jobs from here, but they've never rated me, to my knowledge. And, is there a way we can know what our ratings are? And, how that affects the search function when searching by certain parameters for talent?

Overall, a rating system is a good thing, but it must be a two way system. If not, the seekers can hammer you and you have no recourse. It encourages people not to abuse the system if they know they can get a finger in their eye too.

I agree - I have no problem with a rating system, but it needs to have equality of some sort. And, I'm not sure why someone who doesn't hire me can rate me.

Also, let me just clarify - I'm sure there were other reasons (like not landing many jobs) as to why I didn't come up prominently in the searches. It wasn't just the poor rating. But, that caught my attention b/c it was from just a seeker that didn't hire me.

Well, why can't I see this rating. Shouldn't I be able to see this rating.

Margret....have you gotten Freddie on the phone yet.

There's a rating system at V123?
That's news to me.
And the one at that other place is only an illusion. A month ago, I wearied of being lower than snake dung and upgraded my account there.
I suddenly shot up 100 places.
Than I assigned myself a star. Twice.
I've been entrenched at Number 25 ever since.
Puts me way ahead of JS Gilbert, that newbie who can't get by in this business.
Great system.
If there is a formal grading here, it should certainly be available to talents.
The posters already have total anonymity, low-ball workers, and talents jumping through hoops for nothing.
They're also going to secretly affect and exchange our ratings?

Yes, there is a ranking system on Voice123, it basically calculates the positioning on the db.

But please do not worry about it right now, the New Voice123 comes with an improved ranking system, soon (very soon) more information will be released.

If this is true, I can only say that this is rather disturbing.

I don't like the idea of our reputations sullied by people because only a handful of auditions will low-ball enough to be considered.

I, for one, don't like the idea that there might be a rating system where we don't have full disclosure. That notion disturbs me as a paying customer of a service provided...and it also disturbs me if it's true that voice seekers could rate a talent that they don't hire. To me, that is simply unacceptable.

It's not just me, is it guys and gals?

Freddie,

When the new version comes out, how will be all be "reset" if you will?

I agree with everyone else... I was shocked to learn that and was surprised there wasn't disclosure of the system. I think it might answer a lot of people's questions, and keep them from answering leads they simply are not right for if they knew. Maybe then the number of auditions would decrease?

However, there's just too much subjectivity and no equality when a talent seeker can rank us just b/c they didn't like our AUDITION (and I know I made an error with my audition, btw - an honest mistake as I was a newbie) even when they're not hiring us. And the fact that no one knows there's a rating system, or what their rating is.... it's just not right.

I'm surprised more people weren't aware of this. I thought I was just the only one in the dark.

And oh wait... my original question:

I have been of the mind to not answer leads that are not perfectly suited for me (voice, budget, etc.) b/c I'm afraid I'll get dinged by the talent seeker.

True? Should I still think that?

****
Sorry Freddie - we replied at the same time and mine came in after yours. I wasn't meaning to be obnoxious. But, I kinda would like to know. Thanks - Caryn

I want to know what choices a client has in rating talent? How many options do they have and what are they? As paying talents we should certainly be aware of if and when this happens! And, it doesn't make much sense that a client can rate a talent they didn't even hire. It is so totally subjective..."hmmm, his voice sucks, I am going to give him a 1 out of 10 and hope he doesn't ever come up in my search again on V123"
